the christmas experience
this is the first time in many years that i am actually in front of my pc at home on christmas eve. looking back the years that has passed, i think the last time i'm actually at home on christmas eve was before i entered secondary school - that's a whopping 7 years spending christmas eve away from home. it's always at bukit bintang, only in 2004 when i was in jc1 did i spend christmas in singapore as i had to prepare for orientation back then. [ there was really no holidays for councillors, i vividly recall how i spent my day on new year's eve helping the program i/cs for orientation and also hanging my o1 banner ] that year, after watchnight service at lwmc i went to watch kung fu hustle with wai, jase, angel n christina at 3am! it was really amazing how i stayed awake throughout the movie( but guilty of dozing off during christmas day service)
when i was younger, christmas meant presents. and during the earlier days of my youth, christmas meant a chance to hang out with friends till the wee hours of the morning. i look around today and i see an overly commercialised christmas; even shopping centres are competing for the tallest and most beautiful christmas tree award.it amazes me how some people even think that christmas is santa claus' birthday!!?! yeah, it is the season of giving, but really it is the thought that matters the most. i used to attend gift exchange parties and there's always the part which says you have to bring a present that is at least worth RM5 or some other value. i remember the 31st council's christmas party we had last year...we drew lots to see who we are supposed to give a gift. i felt it was really a great idea, everyone receives something still, and it is also more meaningful as we know who we are giving our gifts to...which leads to better gifts too coz we know what to buy( not the old scenario of giving something that is 'general', that will be ok for any recipient). having said this, a gift is just a gift and the love that comes with it is what really matters the most.
after knowing Christ as my personal Lord and Saviour, my original perspective underwent a major revamp. 'Tis a season of giving, just as God blessed man with His one and only beloved Son, Jesus. that is the significance of christmas; the birth of Jesus Christ. carols now meant more than just nice tunes that everyone can sing along to, it is really rejoicing for the coming of our Lord. spread the love too!
i had a surprise this year when sendhil invited me to a christmas party at his place. it is really heartwarming to know that your friends still remember you eventhough you've been away most of the time for the last 4 years. quite happy to meet my buddies again, especially those i seldom see like mr.neo n mr.saha. still can't believe i was actually sitting through a 3-hour lecture on road safety and car maintenance on the morning of christmas =S
have a blessed christmas everyone
